The author of this antique map is the Dutch cartographer and publisher Willem Blaeu (Guilielmo Blaeuw, 1571-1638). The map is titled "Europa recens descripta à Guilielmo Blaeuw" . The map depicts Europe fairly correctly, but has added the mysterious island of Friesland, located between Greenland and Iceland. A fictitious island that was marked on almost all maps of Europe and the world from 1558 to 1652. In addition, the map has 9 city prospectuses around the edge, as well as 10 portraits of different nationalities.
