Moglea is a design-forward studio in Des Moines, Iowa, where handcrafted paper and home goods are made with a painterly, process-driven approach. Founded in 2012 by artist Meg Gleason and her husband Chad, Moglea began with a vision to bring art into the stationery world. Today, that same spirit carries through everything they create — bold colors, playful compositions, and thoughtful craftsmanship. Each piece reflects their commitment to making artful goods for everyday.
How It All Started
Meg’s journey began with a love of paper and a background in graphic design.
“When I was in college I dreamed of having a paper line. Once we graduated, my husband and I bought equipment for a small letterpress printing shop and installed it in the basement of our farmhouse. I knew I’d have trouble finding a design job in a small town, so I started my own stationery business. We launched Moglea in 2012 with about 30 products and exhibited at a tradeshow in NYC that same year. We’ve been making Moglea things ever since.”
What started as a basement project has since grown into a studio known internationally for its painterly, handmade aesthetic.
Inspiration & Process
Every Moglea collection begins with sketching, painting, and experimenting.
“I paint and sketch a lot before each collection and develop my patterns and textures from there. I get a lot of inspiration from fashion, interiors, or my collection of vintage children’s books. We want each collection to feel fresh and unique, so I try to limit my time on social media. Each launch should feel new and original.”
That philosophy is evident in Moglea’s work: vibrant palettes, intuitive compositions, and designs that blur the line between functional goods and fine art.
