Rikke Bjørn

I am a hard-edge abstraction painter, working in Copenhagen, Denmark. My paintings are brightly colored geometric compositions, where I examine the elements of colors, lines, shapes and surfaces. I continuously play with the relationship between the different elements and seek to find the right chemistry between them. The crisp edges create a visual calmness, while simultaneously the colors create movement and tension.

My color palettes are mostly experimentations of how color's interact with each other, and how the perception of a color can be altered based on its surroundings.

I am inspired by the way the eye can manipulate with what we see. I construct my compositions intuitively and as the process progresses. I rarely work with sketches, which makes the process free and open. I construct solid forms directly on the canvas, which provides the basis for experimenting as to how much I can manipulate them. Sometimes I experiment with using interventions or fragments of finished works, to create new bold works. Through the work with specific themes, I create new works and compositions.

In my creative practice I find peace in working with colors, shapes, order and structure and I strive to lift the energy of the viewers through my work.
