Amanda Lilholt

It's pretty vulnerable for me to share, not only does it spring from emotions inside me, it springs in all my designs; furniture as well as art but because the subject is complex, full of grief, frustration and at the same time also a sense of redemption. It's about the relationship with my mother, which for the last couple of years has been quite intense and hard. I have not seen my mother for a year and a half now because the way we are in each other's lives right now is causing me more pain than joy. With these works; I have a desire to get people to talk about what is difficult, maybe some can relate, maybe someone knows someone who can relate and I hope that it is something that you can talk more openly and vulnerable about. I have tried to express the emotions that have filled me with a lot of grief, frustration, transgressed boundaries, longing but also a kind of hope that one day things will be different.

The motifs in the paintings spring from these emotions and the main theme is the abstract eyes; which symbolize a distortion and are an expression that the eyes, in this case, see different things. The intuition in the motifs characteristics in all these paintings; it is my pure intuition that is transformed into abstract motifs. The colors are carefully selected in the form of contrasts. Some colors symbolize darkness, frustration and longing, while others symbolize a form of hope and redemption.
