Ippolito Caffi war ein italienischer Maler von architektonischen Motiven und Seestücken oder Stadtveduten. Er wurde in Belluno geboren. Seine ersten Werke entstanden an der Akademie der Schönen Künste in Venedig. Bis 1830 hatte er Preise für seine Vedute an der Akademie gewonnen. Anschließend zog er nach Rom, machte sich einen Namen durch seine Abhandlung über die Perspektive sowie durch seine Untersuchungen zur römischen Archäologie.
